The Dr. K. S. S. Nambooripad Lecture 2025, under the auspices of the Dr. C. R. Rao Chair for Interdisciplinary Studies and Research, was conducted on 25–26 September 2025 at the School of Data Analytics (Room No. 513). The lecture honoured the legacy of Dr. K. S. S. Nambooripad (1935–2020), a distinguished Indian mathematician known for his seminal contributions to Semigroup Theory and for his pioneering efforts in popularising LaTeX software and promoting the free software movement in India. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. C. T. Aravindakumar, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi University. Prof. Dr. K. K. Jose, Honourable Director, School of Mathematics and Statistics & School of Data Analytics, presided over the function.
The Chief Guest, Dr. M. Xavier James Raj, Former Senior Scientist and Head of the Orbital Analytics Section, VSSC/ISRO, delivered an inspiring and technically enriching lecture on the Applications of Mathematics in Space Research and Minimum Energy Interplanetary / Lunar Missions.
Dr. Raj, a distinguished scientist who has contributed significantly to India’s space missions including Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, shared valuable insights into the mathematical models and optimization techniques used in mission planning and trajectory design. His lecture bridged the gap between theoretical mathematics and real-world applications in space exploration, offering participants a glimpse into the role of data analytics and mathematical computation in modern space science. Dr. Raj has an illustrious career as a researcher and educator. He served as the President of the Mathematics Section in the Indian Science Congress (2017), and has been a keynote speaker at numerous international conferences. His contributions to academia and research were recognised with the D.Sc. (Honoris Causa) awarded by B. R. Ambedkar University, Muzaffarpur (2021).
